Cheque layouts and printing
Set up where your bank's cheque leaf takes the date, the payee and the amount, test the alignment on plain paper, and print the cheque of a supplier payment.
Verasol prints the cheques you pay suppliers with straight onto your bank's cheque leaf. A cheque layout tells it where the leaf takes each detail: the date, the payee, the amount in words and in figures, and the "A/C Payee only" crossing. Set up one layout for each bank you write cheques on, test it once on plain paper, and every cheque after that lines up.
Set up a cheque layout#
Open Banking › Cheque layouts, or click Cheque layouts on the Bank Accounts page.
- 1 New cheque layout starts a layout. With no layouts yet, the button is Set up the first layout.
- 2 Test print downloads a sample cheque to check the alignment.
- 3 Make default makes a layout the default.
Each layout in the list shows its bank (or Any bank), its size in millimetres and a small preview. The default layout carries the Default badge. Edit changes it and Delete removes it. Cheques already printed are not affected.
- Click New cheque layout.
- Enter the Layout name and the Bank as it is named on your bank accounts, for example Emirates NBD. A payment from an account at this bank prints on this layout first.
- Enter the Cheque width and Cheque height of the leaf, in millimetres.
- Click Use standard UAE cheque positions to start from the usual positions of a UAE cheque leaf.
- Under Where each detail prints, adjust From left and From top for each detail, measured in millimetres from the top left corner of the cheque. For the amount in words, also set the Line width. For the crossing, tick Print to print "A/C Payee only".
- Click Save layout.
1 Use standard UAE cheque positions, 2 Where each detail prints, 3 the Preview, 4 Save layout.
The Preview is drawn to scale with sample details. You can drag a detail on it, or select it and move it with the arrow keys (Shift moves 5 mm). The cheque must be between 50 and 300 mm wide and between 30 and 200 mm high, and every detail must sit on it.
Check the alignment#
Before you print real cheques:
- Click Test print on the layout and print the file on plain paper, at actual size (100%), not "fit to page".
- Hold the printout against a cheque leaf in front of a light.
- If a detail is off, click Edit, move it and click Save changes.
- Test again until everything lines up.
The default layout#
The default layout is used for cheques from banks that have no layout of their own. The first layout you save becomes the default. To choose another, click Make default on it, or tick Default layout while you edit it. When you delete the default layout, another layout becomes the default, so printing always has a layout to use.
Print a cheque#
You print a cheque from the payment it pays. This works for a payment out by cheque that is posted.
- Record the payment to the supplier with the mode Cheque and post it. See Pay vendors.
- Open the payment from Payments and click Print cheque.
- Check the payee, the cheque date, the amount and the preview of the cheque. Choose the Cheque layout if you have more than one.
- Leave "A/C Payee only" ticked unless the cheque may be cashed.
- Click Open cheque to print. The cheque opens as a PDF in a new tab.
- Put the cheque leaf in the printer and print at actual size (100%).
1 Cheque layout, 2 the "A/C Payee only" crossing, 3 Open cheque to print.
Verasol suggests the layout of the bank the payment is drawn on, and the default layout otherwise. A post-dated cheque prints with the date written on the cheque, not the payment date. Printing books nothing: the payment was booked when it was posted.
